Volition Book reviews

Author(s): Lily ParadisDownload

You know that feeling in the pit of your stomach that stays with you, then tears you apart slowly at first, and all at once shreds every fiber of your being? It’s because you’re contradicting the universe. Everything lines up so perfectly that you couldn’t have imagined it to work out better, but then you have to go and do everything humanly possible to ruin it because you can’t stand to have it go right? That’s what I did. I did it because there’s a darkness that surrounds me, and I think I want it there. My name is Tate McKenna, and my soul is blacker than my heart.

Initial thoughts:

1. Although Tate was a dark character, I still loved her and could identify with her in some situations.
2. Hayden was definitely swoon-worthy.
3. Jesse was a so-so character for me overall.
4. Catherine and Colin were hilarious! And also great friends to Tate.
5. The writing was beautiful and the setting was perfect for a New York fan like myself.

I took my time with this book & I’m glad I did because I already know I’m going to miss it. It was sooo soo good. I loved that it was set in NYC & I loved that as we read about Tate and Hayden’s relationship progressing we also read about her past and what got her to leave. By the end of the book I was feeling all sorts of emotions toward Jesse but ultimately I was hurting for him.

It has been quite a while since I finished reading this heart gripping book, and this is a book that I would like to recommend to all, especially those who are between 18-23 years old (yeah, those new adults). This story mainly revolves around Tate McKenna, Hayden Rockefeller and Jesse. Here’s a few reason why you should be reading this book:

1) It is written using 2 point of views, Now And Then. The perspectives changes every chapter, and it is good to know what happens “Then” and why Tate is the way she is right now.

2) To those who have their own Jesse in their life, be prepared to get heartbroken when the story nearly comes to an end. *coughs coughs*

3) Also, this story teaches me a very important thing in life, which is basically no matter where you are, and where you’re from, or who you’re with,

(even though that thing is stupid as shit) and it will lead you to the right things.. or in this matter, a person.

I’m not gonna elaborate more than this. To those who haven’t read this yet, believe me you should (especially if you have your own Jesse in your life) and if you don’t know what the story is about, GOOD!

Read the book blindly, and here’s some advice, Chapter 69 is too heartbreaking for me to handle so don’t say I didn’t warn you.

this book is so beautiful and I couldn’t get enough! I love Tate’s passion in everything she feels whether its the dark & twisty or the bright… which let’s be real not much is bright. I absolutely fell in love with this book and the ideas of fate within it.

“I realize the drops have more in common with me than I might think. We’re all just falling until we’re not falling, and we don’t really have a choice where we land.”

there are many things that bring us to the places we are now and the places we will go.

I’m sorry Lily, I wanted to write such an in-depth, wonderful book review for you. But I can’t. To me, Volition isn’t a book talked about, you just need to feel it. You need to read it to understand.

Volition will put you in the darkest place. In a good way, the book will make you think, and feel. You’ll find yourself overwhelmed with so many emotions. That’s okay, that’s even great because it means you’re getting it. Just step back, take a break when that happens, find a snack, then breathe and dive back in.

Tate isn’t the most likable character out there, she doesn’t do things to please others. She doesn’t for herself. She’s real. She’s dark and twisted but that’s because she’s felt more pain than a person should in one life time. The writing is exquisite. Lily is phenomenal, and so are the rest of the characters. Hayden’s patient and loving, but you know that boy’s rough around the edges but for his women, he’ll be a gentlemen. Jesse, kiss my ass, too little to late.

My review, or not so review will be confusing if you haven’t read it yet. I know the point of a review is to entice you to buy the book. I won’t tell you to do so, but you will be missing out on something so unique and raw if you don’t read this. I’ve been waiting for a story like this, and it’s exactly and more what I’ve been looking for.
