Troy BrennanEvery southie in Boston knows that name. The son of a dead mobster. The heart throb with steel blue eyes. “The Fixer” who can make or break you in this city. Oh, and my new husband. Sparrow RaynesThat’s me. No one seemed to remember my name up until he barged into my life. But then he caged me.Kidnapped me.And killed every chance I had to runaway from the place where we grew up.Put simply, Troy Brennan clipped my wings.I have dreams, big ones, but I doubt he’d ever let me chase them. I have no idea why he’d decided to take me as his wife. But I do know this: pissing off this man will not do me any good. At all.Sparrow is a standalone, full-length novel. It contains graphic violence and adult situations some may find offensive.

I usually don’t read books that are solely about two people falling in love, but Sparrow does stand out from the bunch.

LJ Shen’s romance was unique because of Troy Brennan, a murderer, thug, asshole, chauvinist, and also the protagonist of the story. At first this pissed me off to no end, but I warmed to the concept when I realized that Shen wasn’t trying to pass Troy off as a hero. She never justified his actions or forgave his nature just because he happens to fall in love with a woman. The author and all her characters make no excuses about Troy, and I loved the unapologetic honesty.

Troy and Sparrow’s interactions were always fiery, mean, and hilarious. There was never a boring chapter.

“We don’t have any ordinary words between us. You always set my fucking brain on fire when you talk to me. We don’t even have ordinary moments of silence. I always feel like I’m playing with you or being played by you when you’re around.”

I’m glad I went out of my comfort zone and read this one through to the end. Worth it!

If I could, I would give this book a 6 star rating ******

L.J. Shen is a pure genius! Amazing! *happydance*

This goes straight to my favorites shelf… it was that good!
I found this gem completely randomly.
If you like darker, suspenseful reads, cocky hero and you don’t have a problem with a bit of cheating in novels, trust me and pick up this book!
This story brings love/hate relationships to a whole new level.
Although hero was a complete asshole at times, there was something about him… God!
I really don’t want to reveal too much, so all I can say is that I highly recommend it! 🙂

If you haven’t met Troy Brennan (the fixer), then are missing out. He is cruel with a bad temper but damned if I didn’t like him. Troy is very well known in Boston as the guy that “fixes” things. If you know him chances are it’s not good for you. I was hooked in the first few lines of this book.

Sparrow is the girl that he forces to marry him and she is not happy about one bit. He thought that she was a weak little girl that he could push around and bully to do what he wants but he finds real quick that she has a backbone and is probably the only person in the city that will even look him in the eye. She is afraid of course but she doesn’t show him. For the life of her she can’t understand why he wants to marry her because that have never even spoke. She is mad as hell and fights him every step of the way. I laughed at several things that she did to get even with him.

As harsh as he was with Sparrow, he never hurts her and actually admires her courage and it even turns him on.

This was my first book from this author and I will definitely read more.

Holy crap was this a powerful intense read! Better than I ever expected and more than you could possible imagine! L.J. Shen gave birth to a new cruel. A man so cold he leaves you chilled on the inside. When he’s bad….. Troy Brennan really bad!

Forced into a shotgun wedding, Sparrow Raynes scratches the surface of her husband’s, lies, deadly secrets and games only he knows how to play. She’ll give more then her heart to discover the truth. Then again what unravels could get her killed. It’s amazing how the past has a way of biting a person on the ass when they least expect it!

I’m late to the party but better late than never, right? Now, I know why so many of you gushed about this book and why some of you didn’t get along with it that well. My curiosity has been satisfied and I’ve discovered a new author to follow.

Sparrow is one of those rare books that is so well written that it actually made me read one of my pet peeves and I didn’t break out into hives over it. I didn’t like it but it didn’t enrage me the way it would normally. Why? It was so well done and so in character for the H to do, so complexly fitting to the situation that I didn’t wanna smack his head and yell “You bloody eejit!”. I did want him dead at some point but that was a sum of his whole behaviour.

So to keep this short I loved the writing, the heroine Birdie/Sparrow, the overall plot but I could have done without my pet peeve and a lot more grovelling over it(even if that would have been out of character).

L.J.Shen is an author to watch.
