Author(s): Tony DungyDownload
Tony Dungy’s words and example have intrigued millions of people, particularly following his victory in Super Bowl XLI, the first for an African American coach. How is it possible for a coach–especially a football coach–to win the respect of his players and lead them to the Super Bowl without the screaming histrionics, the profanities, the demand that the sport come before anything else? How is it possible for anyone to be successful without compromising faith and family? In this inspiring and reflective memoir, Coach Dungy tells the story of a life lived for God and family–and challenges us all to redefine our ideas of what it means to succeed. Includes a foreword by Denzel Washington and a 16-page color photo insert.

The viewpoint of Tony Dungy through both the highs and lows of his personal and professional career was really refreshing. He was honest with his struggles and how he saw God at work in his life through those times, and he praised God for the rich blessings that rained down in the good times.
Quiet Strength is about so much more than football. It’s about learning to follow God and to consistently be the person he created to you to be no matter where life takes you or the pressures it places upon you. I particularly enjoyed the chapters which focused on the ways Tony stuck to his standards even when the media and other football franchises believed that things would need to be changed up to allow the Colts to be successful. Really, as Tony points out, success is about doing the small things better more consistently than anyone else.
I highly recommend this book to sports fans and/or individuals who are looking for an inspirational faith story.
I had always admired Tony Dungy, the coach, and the way he avoided media sensationalism, however, I never knew much about Tony Dungy, the man. Quiet Strength opened my eyes to what a man of faith, character, and perseverance he is. The book itself is not about his football career, but the story of his life as a result of his Christian beliefs, with the lessons he learned at a young age from his parents and continued to develop with his wife and family, co-workers, and community is a testament to his faith in an industry where drama is at the forefront of bylines and the positive news stories often are often not shared. He shares his commitment to being positive, supporting others and reliance on God for all things both during hardship and good times. I have written so many notes and phrases from the book to try to reflect upon in my own life and to try to remember during all periods of my life. This is a book that I would highly recommend to anyone and it is a perfect book to help start those conversations about God, faith and His plan for all of us. I will be definitely be seeking out more books by Mr. Dungy and his wife Lauren to help guide me towards a closer relationship with God.
A story of great strength and will, from a man who’s been through a lot in life. This book deals with loss, success, athletics, and so much more. It’s amazing to really see into Dungy’s life as many people likely don’t know what the mans been through. As a future teacher, i think this story would be amazing to implement within a classroom as it shows even successful people can experience a lot of pain. Many people could likely relate to some of the feelings that Dungy experiences throughout the book and really feel a connection with him. I don’t really have any critiques with the book and really like the way the story was told. This is a book that in my opinion, is a 10/10 overall and a story that many people should read as they may feel inspired by Dungy.
Family, football and faith describe this memoir perfectly. From state to state, and team to team, Tony Dungy did something we all need to do….stay the course. Do what we do well. And always have faith, no matter what you are facing. I watched Dungy coach Indy on tv for years. I listened to his interviews. I loved the way he presented himself and the team. After reading this book, what I really want is to sit down and meet this man and his family. His journey is amazing, encouraging and above all, God-honoring. Thank you Tony for not only writing this book, but for doing what you do well. I pray my own book could one day have that kind of effect on others. Keep the faith.
This book was very interesting to read. It was like going through his life with him, facing his struggles and victories along the way. I love reading autobiographies and this one is one of my favorites. I really recommend reading it if you also like to read autobiographies and if you are interested in the life of a football player/coach. He kept fighting his way to have some part in the NFL and eventually he made it there and I have high respect for his determination. It really inspires me to fight for a dream and to make it happen.
