A story of love, a story of hope. How can you move forward when you’re anchored to the past? When it comes to tattooed bad boys, Chase Gartner was the real deal. Partying, engaging in meaningless sex, getting into fights—Chase indulged in it all during his late teen years, thus firmly solidifying his status as a heartbreakingly gorgeous but way-too-dangerous-to-trust guy in his hometown of Harmony Creek, Ohio. Then, following one fateful night of reckless decisions, Chase’s actions finally caught up to him and landed him in prison. Now, four years have passed and Chase finds himself a free man. He returns to Harmony Creek, ready to pick up the pieces and start rebuilding his shattered life. Things are off to a promising start when he meets Kay Stanton, a young woman with a tragic past of her own. Despite a powerful attraction, Chase and Kay are naturally hesitant to become involved. That’s why friendship feels like the safest option. But when passions ignite and love blossoms, a relationship that is destined and meant to be can only be resisted for so long. When Chase and Kay finally succumb to their feelings they realize being together feels more right and true than anything they have ever experienced. But their love is soon tested. Chase’s wild past still haunts and tempts him, and Kay is keeping a secret that could tear them apart. I Stand Before You is a journey of hope and forgiveness, coming to terms with the past and moving forward. I Stand Before You is a beautifully romantic love story between two broken people who are trying to move away from their pasts into a brighter future.
This story is well written and is a captivating read. It also feels very realistic and even if you have not experienced the same things as these characters you still find yourself relating to them in some way. The emotions expressed in this book are love, loss, lust, guilt, grief and hope. You feel all of these along with the characters due to its dual point of view between Chase and Kay.
The characters are adorable and you hope that they achieve their happy ever after. Kay, who is 23 lost her younger sister tragically four years prior. She has been disowned by her mother, is trying to survive on her teachers wage, and is living in an unsafe neighbourhood as that’s all she can afford. She feels guilty every day that she is to blame for her sister’s death. Chase is 24 has been in prison for the last 4 years and has now been released. He is trying to make a fresh start and move on from his jaded past and mend his broken relationship with his younger brother. Kay and Chase meet at their church and both work there over the summer. They share many lunches and their relationship blossoms. They give each other love and hope which they both desperately need.
I Stand Before You is a fantastic read and while the ending is not a cliffhanger in regards to Kay and Chase’s relationship, it has left a great opening for the second book in this Judge Me Not series. Book two is due out in 2014 and is called Never Doubt Me.
If you’re a fan of S.R. Grey’s work like me or you want to read a romantic story that has a very realistic feel to it, then you will not be disappointed.
There is a time when you want to engage your emotions and have them stretched and tied a little. This book came to me just when I wanted to be moved, to delve into a story that would make me want to stay up late. This narrative is compelling. The characters are memorable. S.R. Grey writes feelings with great authenticity, enough for it to resonate in your bones – I felt Kay and Chase’s shame, temptation, desire and redemption. It’s about two people who are learning to open up in order to trust, one slow piece at a time. I appreciate the fact that the story is layered and there are moments of desperateness where I was holding my breath or shaking my head or yelling at my Kindle.
My one critique about the story is that there are a few passages that get bogged down in too much detail. They go a little long or are wordy and do not impact the storyline. I thought it slowed the pace a bit. But truly, it is a small distraction to the pleasure of the book.
IN A NUTSHELL:
A touching and emotionally satisfying read, I look forward to reading more of Ms. Grey’s work.

So real . . . So true! I could feel the character’s pain, their happiness, everyone of their emotions. They just seemed so real!
I don’t usually write reviews unless a book really touches me. This one sure did. I finished in only a couple of hours.
The author kept me interested. I loved the altering points of view. It gave the reader a clear picture of what these two broken people were feeling,
I for one can’t wait for the next one to come out. I mean I can’t wait. Hopefully it is sooner than I imagine.
“Everyone has a dark side, but mine has the power to consume me.”

“The truth should be setting me free, yet I feel no lighter”
I really enjoyed like this book. This book is unique in some ways and very interesting. This book was well written and with a beginning like that its easy to see why I was hooked from the very start. I loved that there was two point of views of both main characters: Kay and Chase. It was easy to connect to the characters and understand their choices. I loved the connection between Kay and Chase. These who people are broken and they work on mending their lives rather then letting the last ruin them. Even when Chase was tempted he learned enough and loved enough to back off so he won’t go back to his old ways. I look forward to seeing what happens next.
“I’ve tasted revenge, and it’s not always sweet. The time we have on this planet is too short for playing games. Anything can happen, at any time.”
This is a book about regret, forgiveness and healing. I loved this book and think you lovely reader would love it too. 4.5 of 5 stars.
