Mackenzie Allen Philips’ youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation, and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his “Great Sadness,” Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend.

Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack’s world forever.

In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant The Shack wrestles with the timeless question, “Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?” The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You’ll want everyone you know to read this book!

I can’t believe the lower rating on this book. I thought it was one of the most beautifully written books I’ve ever read. The author painted such vivid pictures in my head. This will absolutely go down as one of my favorite stories ever. And I usually read romance too.

I am sitting here staring at the screen trying to process what I’ve read. There are two arguments happening in my head right now. One is the angry fundamentalist minister in my life who was an alcoholic who was ‘saved’ in church and while he quit drinking, he wasn’t ‘healed’. He simply traded one addiction for another. While the drinking stopped, the behavior, unfortunately, remained.
That’s how Jesus was introduced to me. That’s how God was introduced to me – through that lens.

I was blown away with reading this book. I was so aware of myself and the knowledge this book gave me that I stopped reading and watched the movie. All I can say is, “AMAZING!” There were things that I had questions about but they were answered throughout this book. I would love to have a weekend with The Trinity.

Mack has not had a great hand dealt to him throughout his life but he’s made the best of it.

Well – where does one start with The Shack?

To lay my cards on the table right away I love this book! Made plans to watch the DVD of the movie recently and wanted to read the book again (4th time!) before seeing the film.

Now to be clear:
Do I agree with everything in the book? No.
Am I a bit uncomfortable with the way the Trinity are portrayed? Yes.
Would I recommend it to a young Christian? No.

Did the book make me think? Yes.
Did the book move me? Yes.
Is the book an honest attempt to explain human

The Shack was actually a book I never intended to read. I was intrigued by it, yes, but just never took the time out of the day to give it a try. I always thought to myself of why should I? I mean, my dad, sister, and cousin have all read this book and have told me basically all the basic points of the story I needed to know. My dad would especially elaborate on his explanation on what this book was about. He kept on telling me just how majestic this book was that I finally gave in.
