This book is just a monster. Loved it, and I’m DAMN hard to please. Tom covers all the bases thoroughly in a no-BS approach backed by an abundance of science and experience.
Powerful, simple, easy to implement, and effective. This book changed the health of our family. It contains all the information you need to know about Nutrition and exercise. I dropped 10 pounds of fat that I’d been unable to shed for over 10 years. In my 40s now, I’m in better shape than I was for most of my 30s. My husband not only dropped weight, but he was able to get off high blood pressure medication.
We THOUGHT we knew how to eat right and be healthy. It’s hard to explain how much misinformation and distortion one absorbs without even realizing it — like thinking that all carbs are bad. After reading the book, we both realized we weren’t eating Enough carbs and had to add more in to our diets. Amazing! More energy and we started losing weight.
This is NOT a “diet book”. There are no gimmicks or weird rules or groups of food to exclude. This is solid information grounded in experience. It is a plan of action that you tailor to your body, your goals. It has great answers for common questions that arose along the way. I go back to it often for inspiration, to refresh my knowledge, and inoculate myself against the latest food and exercise fads.
My one criticism of this book is that the early chapters read, to me, like marketing material. Cheesy marketing material. But once you get past the intro into the actual information, all that falls away. It’s a minor annoyance in an otherwise fantastic and powerful tool.
Give yourself a gift. Read this book. Absorb it. Implement it. Change your life and your health.
I was really positively surprised by this book. It doesn’t contain any marketing or recommendations for supplements it is free of any “religion” which approach is the best. I would say it mostly aimed at beginners and people who would like to lose some weight. It describes 4 major areas which you need to achieve that goal. Metal strength, how you eat, weightlifting, and cardio exercise. Each area is explained in details. I really loved that some common claims are reviewed. If they have a scientific proof to support them or context where they work the best so you can decide yourself if you want to apply that approach. The last part of the book is devoted to some advanced techniques from the nutrition point of view. I would recommend this book to someone wants to lose weight and doesn’t have any experience with that or failed in past. People who regularly exercise and eat healthy food won’t find as much new information but they can consolidate knowledge and use it as a starting point for next education.
I try to read something in the self-improvement/health/personal growth category once or twice a year and this was recommended to my by my friend Noah. It’s a very informative book and would be very helpful to anyone at that point in their life where they are motivated and want to make a physical change. There’s a lot of knowledge in this book and a clear plan to get someone eating better and putting on some muscle fairly quickly. The most useful sections of this book are probably those around eating habits and strategies and if followed (and they aren’t terribly complex) I’m fairly certain most people would see changes fast. As with all health strategies, it just finding one that works for you and that you can do long-term and make a habit and lifestyle change, not a short term diet. Anyways, it’s a good read, lot of info and I’d recommend it to those looking to make a physical change i their lives.
This book is amazing. Its easy to read and easy to understand. Tom breaks down all the things that you need to know about how to eat right, why to eat the way you need to, how to workout properly, how to hydrate properly, and how to get yourself out of plateaus. Tom also goes so far as to give you meal plans, workout plans, and on his website, there are more additional free tools that he provides.
If you’re tired of working out and not seeing any progress, if you’re tired of always restricting your diet, or if you just want to transform yourself, definitely give this book a read. It is well worth it.
