#1 New York Times Bestseller — With a new Afterword
In Michael Lewis’s game-changing bestseller, a small group of Wall Street iconoclasts realize that the U.S. stock market has been rigged for the benefit of insiders. They band together—some of them walking away from seven-figure salaries—to investigate, expose, and reform the insidious new ways that Wall Street generates profits. If you have any contact with the market, even a retirement account, this story is happening to you.

Michael Lewis is the real deal. He delves into complex, important matters. He gets the facts straight. He speaks truth to power. And he figures out how to make it a good story by finding the unlikely underdog who bucks the system. In this case, there is Brad, who determines that there’s something fishy going on with every single transaction on the stock market. Brad struggles to figure out what’s happening and we follow along as he tries to unravel the mystery.
Michael Lewis’s books on the inner workings of the financial industry are always engrossing reads. As in The Big Short, Lewis avoids making the book depressing by giving us a rooting interest. While teaching us about the way our pension and mutual funds are robbed by high frequency traders, Lewis tells the story of the founders of the IEX stock exchange – an institution that attempts to obliterate the high frequency trading (HFT) advantage.
I would have rated it 3.5 if that was allowed. Like most of his other works, Michael Lewis tries to glamorize and sensationalize the high frequency trading division of capital markets with characters varying from Russian coders (who learnt coding on paper, due to limited access to computers), the nice immigrant who wants to make the world a better place and is looking for some support from the evil banks which seem to care only about making money.
Michael Lewis is undisputedly one of the best author alive (at least for me!). He writes about some of the contemporary complex issues in a way that is easily digestible to a layman.
This is my third book by him and Flashboy is undisputedly best…mainly because he was literally a part of this book and he is now part of this breed of “activist authors”.
